Gold foil is one of the direct gold products used for direct gold restorations. The discussion of gold foil needs to be qualified because a lot of variations of it have been produced over time and direct gold restorations are sometimes a combination of some of these products. I will include the variations as part of the gold foil site.
A wonderful film was produced on reel to reel and is probable one of the last documentations of how direct gold in its foil form was produced over history. You do feel the age and history of golds use in dentistry when watching it. Its name is ” Romance of Gold Foil“. I saw it first when I was in dental school as part of our preclinical education. It was shown by to us by Dr. Gerald Stibbs UW. Dr. J. Martin Anderson UW placed it on VCR version and later digitized it for all of us to enjoy.
